Everyone who knows me personally is already aware of this massive event that happened roughly three weeks ago, which I can’t seem to shut up about: I got an agent!
Her name is Larissa Melo Pienkowski, and she’s with Jill Grinberg Literary Management. Our call was awesome! Which is shocking, considering the fact that I was secretly hyperventilating through most of it. Literally all her answers to my questions were exactly what I wanted to hear. And most importantly, she loves my book, thinks readers will too, and has great ideas on how to make it shine as brightly as possible! There aren’t enough exclamation points in the world to convey my joy!
This is not the infamous “How I Got My Agent” post, though I do fully intend to be obnoxiously stereotypical and write one of those next. This is more of a “Oh yeah, I have a website that I never update, and I should maybe announce my news to the world before I get into the long and convoluted backstory” type of post.
I’m currently up in my overly priced hotel room, saving money on breakfast by eating a months-old cereal bar as I wait to go downstairs to Southern California Writer’s Conference. Nothing like a conference to motivate a writer to suddenly “prove” that they have an “active” online platform. I put those two words in quotes because LOL, I absolutely do not have one of those. Still, fake it ’til you make it. (Although, side note, you can’t imagine how relieved I was when my new agent —**AHHHH**— explained to me that having thousands of followers is really only important if you write nonfiction.)
Alright, reign it in, Lara. Let’s see if I get a little better at updating this website in the coming months. In the meantime, I’ll just be over here dying of joy! I may not be anywhere near published, but the my goals definitely feel a hell of a lot more achievable than they did a month ago!
